Certified Personal Trainer

For my project I decided to do something that would pave a path to the career I want. My dream job would be to part of the coaching staff for a professional soccer team, dream big or go home right. I know it may sound ambitious but if you inspire to get there, you never will. So in order to make sure I get there being a certified personal trainer and getting one-on-one experience that would untimely serve as a gateway to graduate school to hopefully land my dream job.

So how do you become a certified personal trainer? Well through various organization out there you must meet certain requirements. First is you must be 18 years or older, must or will obtain a CPR/ AED certification with hands on exercise. So online course do not qualified but a combination of online and hands on learning will. The last and most difficult is to take an exam. Each organization differs in the question asked, length of test, etc. I took my through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  This has a cost of $300 for member so if you are a college student you can get this rate. The exam consisted of 140 question that fitness assessment, program planning, exercise techniques, and safety issues.

During my project like anyone issues came up. At first my First aid, CPR/AED certification had expired since I took the classes my freshmen year. I didn’t want to take a semester long class to get my card back, so I look outside of school and finally saw that Southwest Technology offer the CPR/AED class in one day for five hours. I also had an unexpected lost in my family that push my project a month back. Thought it I just make sure I keep to the plan to have at least two weeks of pure studying and reviewing the material for the test and pass my test.

Overall this was a great experience. I learned how to set aside time from work and my regular study in order to study for the material for CPT. This will be beneficial for my career in that it opens up the door to have clients for me to encounter and help individuals to get fit.
